Unlike many other solar-related companies, we do not spend money on traditional mass advertising. Under current programs, about 1 in 10 homes in Michigan are a really good fit for solar. Most broadcast advertising would be wasted on an audience that isn't appropriate - no matter how interested the homeowner might be.
When we approach a home directly, we have already determined many of the factors that indicate whether the property will be a good fit for solar.
You might be the only home in your neighborhood that fits, or you may have several neighbors that are good candidates, too. Either way, we have a very targeted method - so we aren't wasting people's valuable time.
The most visible factors are:
UTILITY. Does the electric provider have a program that is advantageous to the homeowner? Are current rates more expensive than creating power from solar?
LOCAL CODES. What requirements will the local housing jurisdiction (and HOA, if applicable) have about the design and placement of a system?
SUN. How much shading does the property get? How many hours of sunlight would hit the panels over the course of the year?
STRUCTURE. Is there enough room for panels to fit? Is the underlying surface (building or open ground) structurally sound enough to support a system that will last decades?
SAVE $. If a project were successfully installed, would it save money over what gets spent currently, and over time?
There are a number of other factors that may also apply, and would be identified and discussed in a formal evaluation.
That's a great question - one that we'd be happy to figure out on your behalf!
Like any home improvement project, there are a lot of factors that can (and will) impact pricing. We start by identifying all of the potential requirements of an appropriate system for your situation. From there, we identify the best combination of equipment, installer, and ownership program for your situation.
Most of the time, a solar installation requires ZERO money upfront, and will be LESS than what you currently pay each month for electricity. If going solar wouldn't save you money, we will try to figure that out as quickly as possible, and let you know.
Of course! That said, we will treat your project like any other: doing the analysis from scratch, not just pricing out system size. We've witnessed too many times where other designs are hastily thrown together, details are missed, and the system could not actually have been installed (or perform) as presented.
We have confidence in our ability to determine the best system for your unique situation; and we will be able to show you in simple terms.
If we somehow discover that another company is quoting a better system for a better price... not only will we give you reassurance of that, we will want to add them to our list of available installers for future projects!
We are an independent solar broker, and act as your advocate and guide through this process. Our compensation is built into a project quote, and we only get paid if (and when) all parties are satisfied, and the project is 100% complete.
Much like a real estate broker, we do a lot of preparation work for our clients, and coordinate the approval process of all the different entities prior to and after installation.
As such, we have no desire to attempt fitting a square peg into a round hole. If solar is not a good fit for a property, the project would likely get rejected anyway. We have a vested interest in finding potential red flags early on, to avoid wasting everyone's time.
